Free Toddler Lesson - Week 5

JESUS HELPED HIS FRIENDS BELIEVE, AND THEN WENT BACK UP TO HEAVEN!

Concepts Children Learn:
Jesus was seen by many people after he arose from the grave.
Jesus was patient and helped the disciples believe. He will be patient with you too, and help you believe and understand.

Jesus will come back the same way he went up to heaven!

LESSON: For this lesson, there is a rebus story (a story with pictures, where you "read" the pictures). Then the children will have a shortened version to do as a sticker craft. Look at the rebus big pictures first to know how the story should read.

PREP: Print off the rhebus big pictures and the three story pages in b&w or color. You can use b&w and color them yourself if you don't have a color printer.

Bible Memory Verse: John 20:31 Other verses used as reference in lesson: Acts 1:1-11, Luke 24:13-53.

INTRO: Today we are going to hear the story of what happened after Jesus arose from the grave. You will all get a chance to help me tell the story! I think it will be fun! When I point to the picture, you can tell me what the picture is. First, we'll go over the pictures together to make sure you know what they are. (Hold up the rhebus big pictures page. Point to each picture and say, "What do you think this is?" If they don't know, just tell them. Then go through the story slowly, stopping at the pictures, allowing them time to say what the picture is. You may even want to go through it twice if the children like it a lot. Or if there isn't time, you can tell them they will get to do their own shorter story like this with stickers for the craft!)

CIRCLE TIME: (What does this mean for me?)

Remember in the story how Jesus came alongside the disciples when they were walking and talking? Jesus took the time to explain everything that was written in the Bible about him from the beginning. He cared about them so much and wanted them to understand and believe that he really did rise from the grave. Well, Jesus loves you just the same. You are very young, and just beginning to learn Bible stories, so you won't understand everything. But, did you know that Jesus is there with you, even though you can't see him? He will come alongside you, and help you understand and believe, just like he walked alongside the disciples.

Jesus was always a patient teacher. And remember how Jesus visited the disciples and showed them his hands and feet. Jesus went out of his way and took extra time to make sure they could see the scars on his hands and feet. He even ate something in front of them so they knew he wasn't a ghost. If you have doubts, just ask the Lord to help your faith grow. He'll be patient with you, too, as you grow up. He will teach you more and more about him. He stayed with his disciples to the very end, and he will stay with you to the end too.

PRAYER: Allow children to take turns praying after you or a helper prays.
