Toddler Lesson - Winter Quarter

WEEK 50 - We Can Love Others Because God First Loved Us!

A few color story pages will be available on the evening of 2/11/06.

Key Concepts: We can love others by caring, sharing, and giving to those in need.

Circle Talk Time is combined with the interactive lesson again this week. The lesson is set up like a skit, as last week. Have an assistant play the part of Snuggly Bear, or use a little-kid voice to say his part. Tip: After you give time for the children to answer the questions, make positive comments to encourage participation and thank them for their ideas. Prep: You will need these supplies: A small lunch sack. A real band-aid (small size). Mark your Bible with these verses: Luke 6:31; Romans 12:15; and 1 John 4:19. Print the Accessories and Heart stickers on Inkjet sticker paper, or just use restickable glue stick glue on the back of them. Read lesson beforehand to see how you will be using them. Print and make copies of these story pages in either b&w or color (if available): Accessories, heart stickers, 1bw, 1color, 2bw, 3bw, 3color, 4bw, 5bw, 5color, 6bw, 7bw, 8bw. Print extra pictures to decorate your bulletin board. Make copies of b&w pages that you want to use for coloring pages. Make up The numbers in parentheses tell you what Story Page to hold up while you are telling the story. (You don't need to read the words on the actual story pages. They are for use as posters or coloring pages). Read words in bold for the lesson. The words in parentheses tell you what actions you do.

Mark your Bible with these verses: Memory verse: Luke 6:31; Romans 12:15; and 1 John 4:19. Other verses used as reference for lesson: Romans 12:13; 2 Corinthians 1:3-5.

Intro: Teacher

(1) This is Snuggly Bear. Last week, Snuggly Bear helped us learn how much God loves us. Since God loves us so much, now what do we do? Well, let's listen to this verse: (Read 1 John 4:19). When we know how much God loves us, that makes us want to show love to others. I have some stories to show you what I mean. (2) This is Jacey. (Point to girl on left). Jacey is playing with her new dolls. Her friend Lindy came over to play. Can anybody tell me of a way that Jacey could show love to her friend? (Give children a chance to answer). Well our Bible tells us this: (Read Luke 6:31). So, what do you think, Snuggly Bear?
Snuggly Bear (He says these answers if the children do not think of them. Otherwise, he can just agree and say that is a great way to show God's love). Um-m-m. Jacey could share her dolls with her Lindy. They could take turns playing with the dolls.
Teacher What a great idea, Snuggly Bear! And that is exactly what Jacey did. She let Lindy play with some of her dolls too. (Take some of the dolls from Jacey and place them by Lindy). And, they had lots of fun playing with the dolls together!
Snuggly Bear Let's put a heart on the picture because sharing is a great way to show love with others! (Place a heart on the picture). And when Lindy gets hungry, Jacey could share a snack with Lindy too!

Oh, yes, that would be a very loving thing to do also. What do you think they could have?

Snuggly Bear (Place bowl of cookies in bear's hands). How about these cookies and milk!

(3) Yummy! That sounds wonderful! That is what the girls did next. They went to have a snack. Jacey gave some of her cookies to her friend. (Place a few cookies and two glasses of milk in front of girls).

Snuggly Bear That's a great way to love others too, so we will put another heart on the picture! (Place a heart on the picture).
Teacher Great! (4) How about this little boy? When Jeremy and Matthew were outside playing one day, Jeremy noticed that Matthew's clothes were old. There were patches on them to cover the holes (Point to patches). Does anybody know how he could show love to his Matthew, his neighbor? (Give children a chance to answer). What do you think, Snuggly Bear?
Snuggly Bear (He says these answers if the children do not think of them. Otherwise, he can just agree and say that is a great way to show God's love). Um-m-m. He could go back inside and get some of his extra clothes. And, he could give them to Matthew!
Teacher Oh...that would be very kind! So Jeremy went back inside his house. He got some of his (accessories) clothes that he didn't really need, and put them in a bag. (Put clothes in lunch sack and place on table. Hold picture behind bag of clothes). (5) Matthew is so happy to have some nice clothes to wear! "Thanks a lot, Jeremy! I really needed some clothes!" Now both of the boys have enough to wear! Jesus loves for us to give to people in need.
Snuggles And we can put a heart on this picture, too, because its another way to show God's love!
Teacher Good idea, Snuggly Bear! (Place a heart on the picture). (6) Uh-oh. When the boys were running outside, Jeremy fell and got hurt! How could Matthew show love to Jeremy? (Give children a chance to answer). Do you have any ideas, Snuggly Bear?
Snuggly Bear (He says these answers if the children do not think of them. Otherwise, he can just agree and say that is a great way to show God's love) Well, he could help him get up and take him inside. He could get his mom to help him wash Jeremy's boo-boos. Then they could put band-aids on them.
Teacher Yes, you and the children have great ideas about how to help! (7) So, Matthew and his mom are helped Jeremy. Matthew put a band-aid on Jeremy's boo-boo. (Place small band-aid on picture). They are showing God's love too!
Snuggly Bear Here's the heart! (Place a heart on the picture). And, I can think of a Bible verse that tells us what else we can do - its Romans 12:15!
Teacher O.k. Let's read that verse: (Read Romans 12:15).
Snuggly Bear Since Jeremy is sad, Matthew could be sad with him, and comfort him!
Teacher Yes! That would be showing love to Matthew! (8) So, Matthew is giving Jeremy a hug to comfort him. And, he is sad with him. Now Jeremy is starting to feel better because he knows he has a friend who really cares about him.
Snuggly Bear So that picture gets 2 hearts! (Place another heart on the picture). Yea-a-a-a! Everybody is spreading God's love around! -- Just like God loves us!
Teacher Let's give everybody a heart to wear because God loves each one of us. (Give a heart sticker to each child and help them stick it on their clothes or hand). The hearts will remind us that God loves us. And, they will also remind us to show love to others!
Snuggly Bear Do I get one too?
Teacher You get one too! Thank you, Snuggly Bear, for helping us. (Put heart on Snuggly Bear). And, let's thank all of the children for helping us too!
Snuggly Bear Thank you, everybody!
Teacher And, now let's pray and ask God to help us show love to others!

CIRCLE TIME: (Combined with lesson).

PRAYER: Allow children to take turns praying after you or a helper prays.
