Intro: Do you all remember our story from last week? We will start out hearing that story again. But, this week, there is something else that Jesus tells his friends. Its something about children. Listen close to hear what Jesus says about children.

All the people were so excited. Jesus had come to their town! The people loved to hearJesus teach, so they followed him wherever he went. They loved to be near Jesus! (1) Some of the mommies and daddies wanted their children to be near Jesus too. (2) But the children in this picture look sad, don't they? (Point to the children) Does anybody remember why the children were sad? (Give your class a chance to answer). They were sad because Jesus' friends told them to go away. Jesus' friends told the children not to bother Jesus. But Jesus loved the children! He wanted them to come near him. Do you remember what Jesus said? (Read Mark 10:14). Then Jesus said something else: (Read Mark 10:15). Jesus was telling the grown-ups that there was something special about children: The little children trusted in him! The little children had an open heart. They just loved Jesus! He was telling the grown-ups that they should be more like the little children! (3) That made the children feel really special. The children went right up to to Jesus! They did not wait. They weren't afraid! As soon as they were allowed, they went up to Jesus - (4) even the really little ones! And Jesus loved the children too! He put his arms around them, and blessed them all. And, he prayed a special prayer for each child. (5) Let's look at the children in this picture. (Point to children). They look happy in this picture! They are happy because they knew how much Jesus loved them! And, Jesus' friends learned something that day too. Now let's talk more about what they learned.

CIRCLE TIME: (What does this mean for me?)

In our story, Jesus said that the Kingdom of God belongs to people like children. I wonder what Jesus meant when he said that? Well, Jesus knew that little children trust in him. He could see how quickly the children came to him! But, sometimes grownups stay away from Jesus. Sometimes they do not trust in Jesus. But the little children wanted to come to Jesus.

Did you know that we can still come to Jesus today? Jesus lives in heaven now. Even though we can't see Jesus with our eyes (point to eyes) or touch him (touch your arm), we can still come to him when we pray! (Place hands together in prayer). He always listens real close. (Cup your hand around your ear). (Whisper) He even hears you pray when you whisper! Jesus hears every prayer you pray. And, you are near Jesus when you pray!

The children in the story were happy when they were near Jesus. Jesus gives us joy when we spend time with him. That means we feel happy to be near Jesus! Jesus has so many good things he wants to give you! I hope you will always trust in him. I pray that you will always come near to Jesus.

PRAYER: Allow children to take turns praying after you or a helper prays.
