It was an exciting day for the people in Judea. Jesus had come to their town! Many people were following Jesus! He was teaching them. He was healing them too! That means that when he touched sick people, he made them all better! Only Jesus could do miracles like that! (1) Some of the mommies and daddies wanted to bring their children to Jesus too. They wanted Jesus to pray for their children. But, some of Jesus' friends tried to stop them. (2) (Point to the children) Look how sad the children in this picture are! They are sad because Jesus' friends told them to go away. Jesus' friends thought Jesus was too busy for the children. They didn't think children were important. So, they told the children not to bother Jesus. What do you think about that!? (Let the children answer). That's really mean, isn't it? Well, when Jesus saw this, he was upset. Let's listen to what Jesus said: (Read Matthew 19:14). (3) Now nothing could stop the children! Now the children could run up to Jesus! -- little kids, big kids, giggly kids and wiggly kids. Some were happy kids; and some were sad kids. Some were excited kids; and some were mad kids. All the children were precious to Jesus - the big ones and little ones; ones with bright pink cheeks (Show the pictures of the blonde girl and redhead boy), and the ones with dark brown cheeks (Show the other pictures of children). Jesus loves the shy, bashful kids, and the rough, tumbly kids. Jesus loves all the children!

(4) Maybe some people thought children were not important, but Jesus sure did! The little children could come to Jesus any time at all! They were not bothering him! Jesus loved the little children! Jesus wanted to be near the children! Jesus was never too busy for children. All the children were precious to Jesus - even the babies - the very littlest ones!

So, Jesus was very kind to the children. He let the children come right up close! He placed his gentle hands on them, and prayed a special prayer for them. (5) Now the children were so happy! Now they knew that Jesus loved them! Now they knew how special they were to Jesus! Their mommies and daddies were happy too! Thank you Jesus, for loving the little children! Thank you for teaching us how precious children are!

CIRCLE TIME: (What does this mean for me?)

That story is a true story. It really happened in Bible Times. And, did you know that Jesus is still the same today? Jesus lives in heaven now. And, he still loves little children just the same! Jesus thinks each one of you is important! He loves you so much that he wants you to come near him every day. Can anybody tell me how we can be near Jesus? (Give children a chance to answer). That's right. We can pray. Jesus hears every prayer we pray! We also come near to Jesus when we sing praise songs. And, when we read our Bibles, we come close to him too. I hope each one of you comes to understand how much Jesus loves you, and how he loves for you to come near him every day! So, who can tell me why Jesus wanted the little children to come to him? (Give children a chance to answer: Answers can included: Because he loves them, he thinks they're important, or they are precious to him, etc.).
PRAYER: Allow children to take turns praying after you or a helper prays.
