(1) I'm so glad all of you came to church this morning! I hope you like coming to church. Our story for today is about children helping at church. Let's look at this picture: The children in this picture (Point to children) go to this church (Point to church). They love to go to church to sing praises to God and learn about him! But, look at their church. It is too small. They will need a new, bigger church soon. Do you think these children can help? Well, there's a Bible verse that will tell us. (Read Romans 12:6a). That means that God has given each of us special abilities to help at church. An ability is something that you can do really well! Abilities are gifts from God. Let's see what each child's special ability is.

(2) See the little boy in this picture? His name is Gregory. He is building. (Place block sticker on picure). He is helping his dad build the new church! All the people will be so glad when the new, big church is all done! Thank you, God, for giving Gregory the ability to build, and thank you for helping him use his ability to build the new, big church!

(3) See this little girl? Her name is Lyndy. Lyndy is helping her mom decorate the powder room for the new church. Who wants to help make a pretty design with the stickers? (Let children add stickers to the picture). Oh, how pretty the new powder room will be! Thank you, God for giving Lyndy the ability to decorate. And, thank you for helping Lyndy use her ability to decorate.

(4) This little girl's name is Larisa. Larisa is learning to teach from the Bible. She is pretending that her teddy bears are the people at the church. Let's count the teddy bears together. (Encourage children to join you counting as you place the bears on the story page). 1, 2, 3, 4, 5! Larisa wants to teach at the new church some day! Thank you, God, for giving Larisa the ability to teach. And, thank you for helping her use her ability. All the children will be so glad to hear Larisa teach!

(5) The little girl in this picture is Stephanie. Stephanie is giving money to her church. Her church needs money to build a new building. Who wants to help me put the money in the money box for our church? (Let children insert coins into your box). Thank you, God, for giving Stephanie, the ability to give. And, thank you for helping her want to give money to help build the new church. How happy everybody will be when they see they have enough money to finish the new church!

(6) See the little boy in this picture? His name is Christopher. Christopher is painting a beautiful picture of Noah and the ark, and all of the animals. His painting will be put up in the nursery at the new church! Who wants to help Christopher paint? (Let the children paint on the story picture with dot markers (paint) or color with nontoxic markers). I think the babies will love the new picture of Noah and the animals! It will help them learn the Bible story. Thank you, God, for giving Christopher the ability to paint. Thank you for helping Christopher use his abilities at your church.

(7) This girl's name is Alison. Alison is singing the song, Jesus Loves Me. (Sing a few words of Jesus Loves Me, or another familiar song, then let the children join in with you for 1-2 verses). She is learning how to play the piano too! Alison loves to sing and play the piano! Someday she will play the piano and sing at the new church Who wants to make music to the Lord with me? (Let the children hit a few keys on a musical toy, or shake shakers). That was wonderful! Thank you all for joining me! And thank you, God, for giving Alison the ability to sing and play musical instruments. And, thank you for helping her use her abilities. All the people will be so happy to sing praises with Alison at the new church!

All of these children are learning how to use the abilities that God gave them, to do good things. They are so happy when they use their abilities! Let's listen to this Bible verse: It tells us that God gives each one of us special abilities to help at church. (Read 1 Peter 4:10). (4) He made some us the ability to teach, like Larisa. (3, 6) God gave some of us the ability to do arts and crafts, like Lyndy and Christopher. (2) Some of us are good at building, like Gregory. (7) Some of us have musical abilities, like Alison, who can sing or play an instrument. (5) God gave some of us the ability to give lots of money, like Stephanie! It makes us so happy to use the abilities that God gives each.

(8) Now the new church is all done! Look how beautiful it is! Now all the people have a place to sing praises to God and teach Bible stories! Everybody is so happy that they used their abilities to help! After snack we will talk about some of the abilities God gave each of you!

CIRCLE TIME: (What does this mean for me?)

God made each one of us just the way that he wanted to. He gave each of us special abilbites - things that we are really good at! Maybe some of you can dance well. Maybe some of you are great singers! Some of you can draw really well. Others are very good at crafts! Some of you like to build things. And, you can make great big, tall buildings! It takes all kinds of people to do all the good things that God wants us to do. As you grow up, you will find out more and more what things you are good at. Can anybody tell me something that you think you might be good at? (Give children a chance to answer after each of the questions:) Raise your hand if you think you might be good at one of these things - Who likes to sing? Who likes to dance? Is there anybody who likes to build? Who likes to do art and crafts? Can anybody play a musical instrument? Does anybody like to be a leader? Does anybody like to help the teacher? Who likes to pray a lot? Wow! God has given each of you great abilities! If you don't know what you are good at, that's o.k. I will help you. (If someone has not raised their hand, talk to them after the lesson about what they like to do: help their mom or dad, put things on shelves, clean the house, help with babies, dance, help mom cook, color, etc.). I am so thankful that God gave each of you things you are good at!

PRAYER: Allow children to take turns praying after you or a helper prays.
