LESSON:

Intro: Who knows what day today is? Its Mother's Day! (1) This is a special day to show our moms how much we love them! Our Bibles have a lot to say about our moms. Let's see what it says.

Did you know that God planned long before you were born who your mom would be? He picked just the right mommy for you! In the book of Psalms, this is what David said when he prayed, (Read Ps. 22:9-10) David was glad that God gave him the mother that he did, because she was the one who helped him trust in God!

I bet most of you came to know who God is because your mom taught you. (2)Some of your mom takes the time to read you Bible stories and teach you about Jesus! And your mom was probably the one who helped you get ready to come to church this morning so you could come and worship God with us. I'm so glad that your mom love you so much that they want to teach you the most important things! Right from the very start, from the day you were born, your mom made sure you would learn about Jesus! God wants us to be thankful for our moms, and to treat her special. After all, she is the mom God picked just for us.

Let's see what else our Bibles say about mommies: (Deut 5:16). (3) To honor someone means that you think a lot of them, and you show it. When you honor someone you show them how special they are to you. And, you tell them how glad you are to have them close to you.

Let's talk about ways we can honor our mothers. (4) One way to honor our moms is to listen to our moms and do what they say. When we obey them, we show them that we trust what they say. We show them that we believe they know what is best, even if we don't always understand why. And, we show them that we love them. Proverbs 23:22-25 tells us this: (Read Proverbs 23:22-25). (5) When you do what your mom says, it makes her so happy! It makes her so glad to see that you are doing what she tells you! (6) And God wants us to do everything we can to make our moms glad.

There are lots of other ways we can honor our moms, too, and make them feel special. This is right because she is the one who gave birth to you. And, she is the one God picked to take care of you! Let's have a snack, and then we will talk about some more ways to honor our very special moms.

CIRCLE TIME: (What does this mean for me?)

Who can tell me something you could do to make your mom feel special. (Let children raise their hands to take turns answering the question. Then add as few or as many of the responses listed below as you would like).

One way you could help your mom feel special is to help her do the chores even before she asks us. For example, you could dust the house or wipe off the table. You could put your toys away.

You could surprise her by making her a sandwich. You could ask Dad to help you write a note that says, "I love you mommy" and place it by the sandwich. Or, you could give her something she likes for no special reason, like flowers, or her favorite dessert.

When your friends are at your house, you could say nice things about your mom and tell everyone how glad you are that she is your mom. And, when her friends are at your house, you can be on your best behavior.

If you do something wrong, you can go tell her you're sorry and ask her to forgive you. And, if she makes a mistake, you could forgive her quickly.

You could thank her for the little things she does: Thank her for making your bed, for making you a yummy lunch, and for doing the dishes. Thank her for folding your sweater nice and neat. Thank her for making the bathroom sparkly clean!

Tell her how much you enjoy the Bible stories that she reads you! Tell her how much fun she is to be with.

Ask her what you should do if you have a problem. Ask her what she thinks about anything at all.

Buy her something special with your allowance. Give her a present even when its not a holiday.

Tell her how beautiful she is. Give her a hug just because. Let her sit in the most comfy chair in the house.

Do what she asks you to do without complaining.

Whatever you do well, (sing, paint, build), do it just for your mom.

Transition: Let's bow our heads, close our eyes and fold our hands. I'll say the words first and give you time to say them after me if you'd like to.
PRAYER: Dear God, by listening to her
Thank you for picking and doing what she says.
just the right mommy for me. Help me to make her
Thank you that she helps feel special today
me learn about you. and every day.
Please help me In Jesus' name,
to make her happy Amen.
Transition: Now we have some fun mother's day activities, and some great gifts to make to give to our moms. Activities, Crafts.
