(1) Zip! Zip! Zoom! Zoom! Everything happens so fast these days! Cars on the freeway drive 100 miles an hour! Pop, pop, pop!...goes the popcorn in the microwave. A minute later... its all done! We turn on our computers and... Boom! (Snap your finger). Its ready to go in an instant! (2) Even you kids can move fast! Zoom, zoom - back and forth you go! Let's all run in place as fast as we can! (Show children how to run in place fast). Now let's pretend to eat really fast! (Show children how to pretend to eat fast). Show me how you drive really fast! (Show children how to make car engine sounds, pretend to grip the car steering wheel and steer fast, beep your "horn", etc.) Wow! You all drive so fast! Its fun to go fast, isn't it?

But, sometimes we can't go as fast as we want to. Sometimes, if we are weak, or if we are hurt, we have to go much slower. (3) Some of you have grandparents. They are older, so they don't have as much energy as you do. They are weak, so they have to go a little slower. Sometimes its hard to wait for them. We want to go fast, so we rush right by them. But, let's see what our Bibles say about how we should treat those who are weak. (Read 1 Thes. 5:14c beginning with "Help..."). Help the weak. I wonder how we could we help our grandparents? First we have to slow down enough to think about what they might need help with. Does anyone have an idea how we can help older people who are weak and slow? (Let children answer). (Make positive comments about children's answers). (4) Maybe there is something we could carry for them. Maybe we could get them a glass of water or a snack. We could also help them dust or clean at their house.

(5) Those who are sick are weak too. This girl has chicken pox. She feels awful! How could we help her? (Let children answer). (6) We could make her a Get well card like this one! (7) And, we could pray and ask God to make her all better. Do you think she would like that? (Let children answer). Yes, very much. We could lend her a DVD to watch since she is not well enough to go outside to play. There are lots of things we could do to help her! God doesn't want us to rush right by those who are weak. He wants us to show love by being patient. He wants us to think about how they feel, and slow down long enough to help them.

Let's see what else our Bible says? (Read Thes. 5:14d beginning with "Be..."). It says to be patient with everyone! But some people are so-o-o-o s-l-o-o-o-w! Re-a-l-l-l-y, re-a-l-l-l-y sl-o-o-o-w. Can you show me what a slow person looks like? Let's get up and walk in place as slowly as we can. (Stand and show children how to move in slow motion). O.k. Very good. That is really slow! What should we do when people are so slow? (Let children answer). Yes. What does it mean to be patient? (Let children answer). Yes. It means we wait for them. It means we don't push them. And, we don't tell them to hurry up. We can help them instead. Let's have snack, then we can talk some more about how we can show love to others by being patient.

CIRCLE TIME: (What does this mean for me?)

(8) This is Jeremy. He is pounding his hands on the table because he is hungry and he wants to eat right now! He doesn't want to wait for his mom to fix dinner, so he is acting up and causing trouble. But is that being patient? (Let children answer). No. Our bible says one way to show love to others is to be patient.

When we don't want to wait, we have a choice to make. We can do what God says in the bible (point up), or do what we want (point to yourself). (9) Jeremy decided to do what he wanted instead of obeying God. He snuck some cookies when his mom wasn't looking. (10) But when it was time for dinner, his tummy was so full he could hardly eat dinner! Now he was sorry that he didn't obey God, and didn't obey his mom.

(11) Here's a promise God gives us in the Bible: (Read Hebrews 6:10). God will not forget the good things we do! He sees every time we are patient! He sees when we slow down enough to help others! He will remember! When we are being patient we are showing love. (12) God loves us so much! And, he will help us show love to others!

PRAYER: Allow children to pray after adult prays.
