(Do Warm-Up Activity before lesson). Intro: I hope you all had fun playing follow-the-leader this morning. I sure did! Its lots of fun to copy the person in front of you, isn't it? (1) Its also fun to be the leader! (Point to the leader in the picture). Did you know that the Bible tells us to be a leader for others to copy? (2) In the verse I'm going to read, Paul is speaking to Timothy. A few weeks ago, we talked about how Timothy was Paul's helper. Paul was a preacher. Here is one of the things Paul told Timothy that he wanted Timothy to remember: (Read Timothy 4:12). Paul's words words are still important for us too. Paul was telling the people to think about how they are acting. If we do bad things, we might teach others to do bad things. And, we don't want to do that. (Shake head no). When we do good things, we are setting a good example for others to follow. That is how we can be a good leader. Do you know why it is important to do good things? This Bible verse will tell us. Listen close: (Read Hebrews 10:24). Our Bible tells us to think about how we can help others do good things. (3) And, we know that people like to copy each other. Sometimes we copy each other when we don't even know we are doing it! So, if we do good things, people will copy us, and we will help them do good things too! We will be setting a good example!

When we do good things, it gives others ideas of some good things they can do too! When people see the great things that others are doing, they get excited about doing something great too! Doing good things is contagious! That's a big word. If something is contagious, it means that somebody can catch it from you. (4) Like, when you have the flu, somebody else can catch the flu bug from you. (Point to older brother) Andrew had the flu, and then his little brother, Jacob, got the flu too because the flu bug is contagious. (Point to younger brother). Did you know that love is contagious too? When you are loving and kind, It makes them want to be loving and kind too. And, when you do good things, others want to do good things too! We'll use this little love bug to show you how it works. (5) Here's the love bug. He is all about love and kindness. (6) (Place love bug above Cindy) Cindy was being loving and kind. She was making a card for her brother who was in the hospital with a broken arm. (7) Then, her sister Pamela saw Cindy making the card. (Place love bug above Pamela) So she made a card for her brother too! Pamela caught the love bug from Cindy! Loving others and doing good is contagious! Their brother was so happy when he saw the cards that his sisters made for him! It really cheered him up, and soon he was all better.

(8) This is Jordan. When Jordan came home from church one day he showed his friend, Matthew, his piggy bank. He told Matthew how excited he was about his new project. He was saving his money to buy toys for children who didn't have any toys. That's a good thing to do, isn't it? So, we'll put the love buy on Jordan. (Place love bug above Jordan). That gave Matthew the idea that he could also save some of his money to help the poor children. The next week, (9) Matthew showed Jordan his new piggy bank. He showed Jordan the coins inside. He said, "I saw the good things you were doing for the poor children, and I wanted to do it too! I've saved some of my allowance from last week to help you buy toys for the poor children! Matthew caught the love bug from Jordan and copied his friend's good behavior! He was loving and kind too. So now we'll put the love bug on him. (Place love bug above Matthew). Once again, we see that love is contagious! In this story, who was helping his friend do good things? (Let children answer). That's right. Jordan was setting a good example for his friend Matthew. Then Matthew copied Jordan, and he started doing good things too!

I think you are starting to understand how we can help one another do good things. Let's have snack, and then we can talk some more.

CIRCLE TALK TIME:

Let's read Hebrews 10:24 again: (Read Hebrews 10:24). Let's talk about how we can help others show love and do good things, like our Bible tells us to.

There are lots of ways we can set a good example and help others do good! Can anybody tell me some other good things we could do, to help others do good things? When you tell me how we can show a good example for others, I will put a love bug on you to wear! (Let children answer, and tape a love bug on each child who answers. Then add some of the following ideas, or some of your own, and each time you say something new, pin a love bug on the children who could not think of an answer). (Possible answers: Help buy food for poor people; invite your neighbors and friends to church; buy flowers for a grandma or grandpa who lives at a nursing home and visit them; help your mom or dad with some chores around the house; help someone who is hurt, etc.). Very good! Thank you for sharing your good ideas. Now let's pray and ask God to help us set a good example for others and help them do good things.

PRAYER: Allow Children to pray after teacher or helper prays.
