LESSON: The Golden Rule! (With Circle Time Combined)
Teacher (INTRO):

The last few weeks we have been learning some great things that Jesus taught us. And, our little Bible Bees have been helping us learn. So far, some of the things Jesus taught us are: (1) Bee...(open bee's tummy) Kind! (2, 3) Bee...(Lift 1st flower) Helpful! and Bee...(lift second flower) lieve! On another day Jesus was teaching the people many things. One of the things he told them was a very important rule. This rule helped them understand how to love each other. This one rule would help them know if they were acting in a loving way. This is the rule that Jesus taught them: (Read Matthew 7:12). Another way to say it is: (4) (Read heart that children are holding). Jesus is the one who showed us best how to love others. Jesus was the most loving one who ever lived! He was very kind, and Jesus always helped people whenever he could. Jesus loved people even when they were mean to him.

(5) This is little bee is going to help explain what Jesus' rule means. His name is Blimpy Bee.

Blimpy Bee: Hi, everybody!
Teacher : Who can tell me what color Blimpy is? (Give children a chance to answer). Yes, yellow -- He's kind of a golden yellow color, isn't he? He is golden because the rule we just learned is called the Golden Rule! Blimpy Bee will read it again, because its a great verse to remember. Then we can all try to say it together.
Blimpy Bee: (Open heart and read verse, then read it a second time slower, encouraging children to repeat each few words after you).
Teacher: Why do you think its called the golden rule, Blimpy Bee?
Blimpy Bee: (6) Maybe because its precious like gold! Or maybe because It makes everybody feel happy, like the golden sunshine!
Teacher: I like your answers, Blimpy. Let's talk about what it the Golden Rule means.
Blimpy Bee: O.k.
Teacher: (7) Let's look at the little girl in this picture. Its her first time at his Sunday school class. How do you think she might feel?
Blimpy Bee: Maybe she feels scared and shy because she doesn't know anybody in the class.
Teacher: And how would you want to be treated if it was your first time in a class, and you were feeling scared and shy? Let's give the children a chance to answer. If anybody has an answer, raise your hand. (Call on a child who has their hand raised, or continue on with Blimpy's answer).
Blimpy Bee: (8) I would want them to be friendly! They could come over and tell me their name and ask if I want to play with them!
Teacher: Yes, that is how I would want people to treat me too! Now the little girl has a smile on her face. It made her happy when the kids were friendly to her. How about this...(9) This little boy can't walk. (Point to boy in wheelchair). His legs are broke. He rides in a wheelchair instead. But, he needs someone to push his wheelchair when he wants to go somewhere. First, who can tell me what the golden rule is? (Give children a chance to answer). Very good! You are learning quickly! And. of you were the one in the wheelchair, how would you want people to treat you? Raise your hand if you remember. (Call on a child who has their hand raised or let Bee's answer). Very good!
Blimpy Bee: I would want people to ask me if I need to go somewhere. Then they could push me where I needed to go. And, I would like somebody to talk with me when I couldn't run and play too!
Teacher: Yes, I think that would be a very nice way to treat someone who is in a wheelchair. Now the little boy in the wheelchair feels better because the somebody is showing him God's love. They are treating him as they would want to be treated. (Read the words in the picture). What about this? (10) If your friends came to your house to play, and then it was snack time. But, there are three children, and you only have two cookies. First, who can tell me the Golden Rule? Raise your hand if you know. (Call on another child who has their hand raised). Very good! I'm glad you are all learning so well! Who can tell me what you should do when you only have two cookies, but there are three children? (Call on another child who has their hand raised, or have bee answer.)
Blimpy Bee: You could break the cookies in half, so everybody could have a piece!
Teacher: Yes! That would be a very loving thing to do! Look how happy the children are while they are having their chocolate chip cookies! Its a lot of fun to share, isn't it? God is pleased when we share, too. Well, I think you are starting to understand the "Golden Rule" that Jesus taught us! And, now it is time for us to have snack. Then we can do some fun activities and crafts! (Add Blimpy Bee to bulletin board).
PRAYER: Allow children to pray after you or a helper prays.
