The numbers in parentheses tell you what Story Page to hold up while you are telling the story. (You don't need to read the words on the actual story pages. They are for use as posters or coloring pages). Only read words that are not in parentheses for the lesson. The words in parentheses tell you what actions you do.

Bible Memory Verse: Psalm 9:1. Other Scriptures used as reference: John 9:1-12.

Intro: (1) Have you ever made mud pies out of sand or dirt? Its a lot of fun, isn't it? You can make pies, or cupcakes, or hamburgers, or... anything you want to make! But, then you leave your mud pies outside and forget all about them. The mud is not really good for anything after that. In our story today, Jesus made some clay out of dirt too. I wonder what he was making? Jesus did something very special with his clay. Let's listen and we will see what he used the clay for.

One day when Jesus and his helpers were walking along, (2) they passed by a man who was blind. Do you know what blind means? It means you can't see. Let's all put our hands over our eyes. (Cover your eyes with your hands, and encourage children to do so). O-o-o-o. Everything is so dark! It must be scary when you can't see anything. This poor man had been blind since he was born! (3) He never got to see any trees (Point to trees.), or pretty flowers (Point to flowers.) or the sun, (Point to sun) or people (Point to people). Jesus' helpers asked Jesus, "Did somebody sin? Is that why the man is blind?" Jesus explained, "No. (Shake head no). Nobody sinned. This man was born blind so that people could see the work of God! I must do the work of God who sent me."

Then Jesus spit on the ground and made some mud pies. Well, not exactly pies! But, he formed the dirt into clay, kind of like this clay that we have here. (Hold up one of your circles of Playdough). Then Jesus placed it on (4) the man's eyes. (Put some clay over the man's eyes). Jesus said to the man, "Go wash off the mud in the pool Siloam. (5) So the man went to the pool of water and washed off the mud. (6) Now the man could see! Wow! He had never seen the trees before, or pretty flowers, or even the sunshine! How happy he was! Now he could see all the beautiful things that God made!

His neighbors and friends all said, "Isn't that the man who was blind?" Somebody said, "Yes, he's the one". Somebody else said, "No, it just looks like him". But then the man himself said, "Yes! I was the one who was blind!" So the people asked him, "Then how do you see now?" A man named Jesus made clay and put it on my eyes. He told me to go wash it off in the pool of Siloam, so I did. Then I could see!" They asked the man, "Where is Jesus now?" But the man did not know. All he knew was that he was blind, (Place hands over eyes.) , and now he could see! (Remove hands from eyes).

CIRCLE TIME: (What does this mean for me?)

Wow! Jesus did a miracle with his clay, didn't he? Jesus helped the blind man so that he was able to see! Jesus can do things we can't do! Jesus loves to help us because he loves us! When Jesus helps us, what should we do? This verse will tell us the answer: (Read Psalm 9:1). That's right. We can praise the Lord for helping us, and then go tell others! Just ike In our story the man told his friends and family how Jesus helped him to see! He wanted everybody to know how good God is! God helps us in lots of ways! He gives us the clothes and food that we need. Sometimes he heals us when we are sick. He even helps us when we have big problems. God loves to help us! And he wants us to tell others when he helps us!

Did you like thestory? Now we can go make our own mud pies after prayer time.

Transition: Let's bow our heads, close our eyes and fold our hands. I'll say the words first and give you time to say them after me if you'd like to.
PRAYER: Allow children to pray after you or a helper prays.
