LESSON: God is Everlasting! (Combined with Circle Talk Time)

Intro: Did you all have fun playing with the (dolls, action figures, farmers -- or whatever toys they played with). Its a lot of fun pretending, isn't it? We can make up stories and dream about what it would be like to be a farmer, mommy, daddy, or a man in the army. But we know that the little army men and dolls that we were using are not real. They are only pretend people. (Hold up some dolls, farmers, or army men). They can't talk and think and play. We can only pretend to make them talk and play. But all of you are real people. (Point to children in your class). You can think and walk and run and talk. Wiggle your fingers and show me you are real. (Show children how to wiggle their fingers)

Let's look at some other things to help us understand what is real and what is not real. This is real jewelry. (Hold up real jewelry). See how shiny it is? O-o-o-o! Its pretty, isn't it? It costs a lot of money! But this is play jewelry. (Hold up play jewelry). It only costs a few dollars because its not real. (Put on play jewelry). But we can pretend it is real and have a lot of fun with it, can't we?

Here is some real money (Hold some real dollar bills). We can buy things with it because its real. But this is just play money. (Hold up play money). If we took it to the store, we couldn't buy anything with it. (Shake head no). We can only pretend to buy things with it when we play games. Its just pretend money.

Did you know that some people have a pretend god? They dream up their own god that is not real. And, they pray to something that is not real. That's silly, isn't it? Let's read our Bible. It will tell us who the real God is. (Read Jer. 10:10a). Our God that we read about in the Bible is the only real God! When we talk to God, he really hears our prayers, because he is real. And, the things that he tells us in the Bible have come true, because what he says is true and real.

I wonder how long God has been around? Let's think about that. (1) You were born a long time ago. Some of you were born two years ago. Some of you were born three years ago! (2,3) Your parents were born even before that! Some of your parents were born 20 or 30, maybe even 40 years ago! They have been around a long, long time. (4,5) And, your grandparents have been around even longer than that! They have been around for 40, 50 or 60 years! Can you think of someone who has been even longer than that? Even longer than the parents of your grandparents? Even before the people who lived a long, long time ago? (Give children a chance to answer). Yes! God has been around even before he made the very first person, more than 2,000 years ago! Our Bibles tell us that in the very first verse! (Read Genesis 1:1). God was alive at the very, very beginning!

And, if God has been around for so long, do you think he will just leave us all to ourselves? (Let children answer). No. Let's read our Bibles to see how long God will be around: (Read Rev. 22:13). To help you understand this verse better, let's all form a line by holding this rope. (Help children hold the rope). Can you tell me who is at the beginning of the line? Yes, _____ (child's name) is standing at the beginning of the line. And, who is at the end of the line? Yes, ____ (child's name) is at the end of the line. Our verse tells us that God was alive at the very, very beginning, before anything else! And, he will also be with us to the very, very end! God will always be with us!

Now let's listen to the rest of our first verse (Read Jer. 10:10b). Eternal means forever! God will be with us forever! He is ever-lasting! That means he will last forever! Let's talk about what that means. (6) Let's look at the things on this page. (Point to heart). This heart is a picture that stands for God's love. Can you show me which of the things on this page don't last very long? (Let children pick out potato chips, cookies, crayon, balloon, as you hold the daily calendar). These things might only last a few days. (Continue as you flip through a few pages of the calendar, starting on Sunday).Today is Sunday. Those things might last through tomorrow, (flip to Monday) and the next day, (flip to Tues), and maybe even the next day (flip to Wed.). Then they might be all gone. Now let's see if we can find some things that might last longer. (Let children pick out the other items: teddy bear, tree, Bible). These things might last many, many days. They might even last weeks or months. (Take many pages of the calendar at a time and flip them over as you continue). The teddy bear might last a few months (flip over a few months). The Bible will hopefully last many years! And, I think the tree might last for many, many years to come! But, who can tell me what lasts longer than all of these things? (See if children can pick out the heart). Yes! God's love lasts forever! (Point to heart) (7) Let's listen to this verse: (Read Jer. 31:3). God's love for us lasts forever! That means it never ends! That makes me so happy to know that God's love will always be there for us! (8) God has loved you since the time he formed you in your mommy's tummy. (1 again) And he will love you even when you are old, like your grandmas and grandpas. He will love you all the way from the beginning (Hold out left hand to the side, and point to it with the right hand, then making an arc above your head, ) to the end! Then, sweep over to the right side with left hand pointing to the right hand that is held out to your right side). Let's all do that together! God loves us from the beginning (repeat previous hand motions on left side) to the end! (repeat previous hand motions on right side).

Very good! Well, I think you are starting to understand. Let's have snack, and then we have some fun crafts and activities to do.
