LESSON: God is Love!
Intro: (10) Did you ever wonder what God was like? Some of you who have been coming to Sunday School might have a pretty good idea what God is like. But, the next few weeks, we will be learning even more about what God is like. This week we learn something very important about God: (Read 1 John 4:16b). God is love! That's what God is all about! And, as we get to know God more and more, we will love others more and more! Let's listen to this rhyme about God's love for us:
What is God like? Can you tell me? God loves us so much, and he wants us to know.
Do you have a picture for me to see? (8) He wants us close to him, each day as we grow.
No one has seen God, but he's not hidden. He loves to hear our prayers and know our thoughts.
(1) He shows what he's like in the Bible, no kiddin'! Though he might seem far away, he's really not.
God was alive even before he made the earth! God loves each and every one, forever and ever
(2) He created all things, giving each one new birth! He will stay by our side and leave us never!
I'm not sure how he made all those wonderful things, (9) He has shown us his love more than anyone could!
But his glorious creation makes me shout and sing! And wants us to praise him, as we should.
God is the ruler over all that he made! He wants to protect us from things that aren't right.
(3) He provides all with food, shelter and shade. He wants us to obey him; in us he delights!
God loves us so much he knows every little thing. He'd like us to call him Father from the start.
(4) He's sad when we cry, and loves to hear us sing! (10) To be his children and to know his heart!
For each of us, he has wonderful plans! (8) If we seek him with all of our heart,
(5) He'll be like a Father who holds our hand! He promises we'll find him. And, that's just a start!
(6) He surprises us many times, you will see! As you go through life with God by your side,
More than we can count, one, two, three! He'll be your leader and your guide!
God cares about our feelings, when we're happy or sad. He wants us to love with him with our whole heart and mind.
(7) He wants us to talk to him when we are mad.

To love others like he does, and to be kind.

He's the only one who can meet all of our needs! Thank you, God, for loving us al-ways.
Our Savior and provider, he wants to be! (5 again) Help me to follow you all of my days!
We'll talk more about what God is like for Circle Time. First, let's take a break and have snack.

CIRCLE TIME: (What does this mean for me?)

Let's talk about the things God knows: Listen to this verse: (Read Matthew 10:29-31). Just think - and he knows how many hairs are on your head! After all, he knows everything about us because he made us, and cares so much about us. He even knows what we are thinking!

Here's another verse that tells about how much God loves us: (Read Isaiah 40:11). (Hug stuffed lamb). God thinks of us as his little flock of lambs. (11) He is always with us. He stays right by us and watches over us. And, he leads us and protects us, just like a shepherd cares for his little lambs!

God loves us more than anyone ever will! And he wants us to always stay close to him. How can we learn to know God better? (Let children answer, and add: By praying to him often, and by asking someone to read our Bible to us). Very good. Let's pray and ask God to help us know him better. Then we have some fun crafts and activities to do.

PRAYER: Allow children to pray after adult prays.
